The Inner West Magpies are very excited to announce the signing of the Head Coach of the Inner West Magpies Women’s Program for the 2022 season – Mitchell Ede.
Mitch joins the Magpies from the Central Coast where he was the Senior Coach at the Cardiff Hawks AFC and the AFL HCC Senior Men’s Representative Coach in 2021. He began his coaching career as a 19 year old with the WyongLake Magpies U18s team. Since then, Mitch has coached numerous senior sides as well as multiple representative sides. He has also held head coach and program lead positions in various academies and talent development programs. Mitch has particular experience with female programs, from coaching representative senior and junior sides to completing courses specializing in coaching female athletes and identifying young talent.
To date, Mitch’s coaching highlight was his premiership season as a player coach in 2014, but he is looking forward to replacing it with a new highlight after season 2022 with the Magpies. Mitch describes his goals for the Magpies in 2022 as being to, “outside of 2 premierships in 2 divisions, develop some consistency in our structures and ball movement across the playing groups which will allow us to be successful over many seasons.”
A keen Pies supporter in both the AFLW and AFL, Mitch hopes to create an environment where players feel empowered to voice their opinions, value add and increase their footy IQ.
Yvette Andrews, Vice-President of the Inner West Magpies, says that the club is “thrilled” to have Mitch on bard as the Head Coach of the Women’s Program.
Mitch brings a wealth of experience from playing and coaching senior footy to running academies and youth programs. He’s got great footy knowledge, is an excellent communicator and has a quirky sense of humour. Mitch has fitted right in. The response to his sessions so far has been fantastic.
Welcome to the Inner West Magpies, Mitch! The club is delighted to have you as a part of the Women’s Program and the club.
