With the heavens opening up across Sydney the stage was set for an old-fashioned mud-scrap. The Inner West Magpies Premier Division women took on Macquarie University who have been a powerhouse within Sydney women’s footy. This season has been shaping to be a different tale and the result confirmed that with the Magpies winning by 38 points.
The players responded after a defeat to Manly last week in the best possible way by coming out and playing the style of football which has them as genuine contenders in 2020. The first half was highlighted by an accountable midfield and a forward setup that showed cohesion and polish. The Magpies went into half time with a 25-point lead.
The second half became a real scrap as the wintery conditions really took hold. The Magpies finished with a comfortable victory which sees them return to the top echelon of the table and set themselves up for a good run into the finals.
In a dour contest the contributions were evenly spread however Best on Ground performance was awarded to Belinda Harrison with special mentions to Rebecca Privatelli (four goals), Lael Kassem, Melissa Freckelton, Jasmine Smith and Meredith Montgomerie.
