Dear Inner West Magpies Community,

I hope everyone is doing as well as possible with the current restrictions. Following on from the 16 August statement from AFL NSW/ACT to cancel the 2021 AFL Sydney season it seems timely to update on how we plan to wrap up season 2021 and move onto season 2022.
Certainly the 10 rounds we managed to play until 19 June saw some great results and most of our seven teams well placed for finals. Two of the great stalwarts of our club – Arron Convery (Women’s Premier Division) and Andrew Taylor (Men’s Reserves) – are stepping down from coaching these teams. A huge thanks to Catta and Tails who you’ll be pleased to know will be fully engaged on other activities at IWM in 2022.
Prior to the lockdown we had planned for our Presentation Night to be on 9 October and AGM on 11 October (as well as a host of other events). At our next committee meeting on 6 September we’ll consider both a date and format for the Presentation Event and AGM noting we’ll be guided by what restrictions are in place in October and beyond.
Given that we have not been able to hold many events during the 2021 season our fundraising income has been significantly reduced – meaning registrations monies are more important than ever to ensure our community club can meet ongoing commitments and key projects such as improving the Picken Oval surface.
In terms of the 2022 pre-season and season we’ll provide updates on our coaching structure in due course, as well as when we can resume training once the restrictions are lifted.

Stay well and Go Magpies!
